On November 30, 2017 at 6 p.m. Meriwether County Sheriff Chuck Smith hosted a "Church Security Presentation" at the Meriwether County Courthouse.

This presentation was attended by more than 30 representatives from 11 of our area churches. The churches represented were First Baptist of Manchester, Greenville Baptist, Manchester First Assembly of God, Woodbury Baptist, First Baptist of Warm Springs, First Baptist of Gay, New Covenant Baptist of Pine Mountain, Mt. Hope Baptist of the Mt. Hope Community, Rehobeth Baptist of Luthersville, Alvaton Baptist, and Salem Baptist of the Raleigh Community.

"We have been conducting these presentations for our area churches on request for several years," Sheriff Smith said.

"Colonel Byron Hadley, my Chief Deputy, built this Power Point presentation around 2008 and he has added to it as events have changed to keep it current and up to date. We provide this presentation to our area churches as a guide to assist them if they choose to develop their own church security plan or to enhance what they already have.

"They are provided with handouts and applicable laws to supplement the Power Point presentation. This program is designed to be attended by members of churches that are in the decision making process for their respective religious organization. This would be inclusive of pastors, deacons, committee members or as referred church elders. It is our way of taking a proactive approach to the times in which we now live regarding the evil that exists and religious organizations must face," Sheriff Smith said.

"If any other area churches would like for us to put this presentation on for them feel free to contact me or Colonel Hadley at (706) 672-6650," Sheriff Smith said.
